Jiahui Launches Academic Forum Series: “Leading Experts at Jiahui Spotlight”

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Breast Expert Medical Forum

A 45-year-old female, after undergoing bilateral mastectomy and bilateral oophorectomy, continued treatment with letrozole. During the treatment, she experienced severe joint and muscle pain, hot flashes, and insomnia. Her case raises a critical consideration for oncologists: whether post-operative breast cancer treatment must come at the cost of debilitating side effects, forcing patients to weigh survival against quality of life.

On July 11, 2025, Jiahui International Cancer Center (JICC) at Jiahui International Hospital (Shanghai) held the inaugural “Leading Experts at Jiahui Spotlight - International Oncology Expert Medical Forum.” Dr. Bao Ting, a breast cancer expert from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a clinical affiliate of Harvard Medical School, was specially invited to deliver a lecture on "Integrative Medicine for Breast Cancer Patients” to a full auditorium of breast cancer patients and their families.

Dr. Bao Ting introduced the clinical practice of integrative medicine at Jiahui International Cancer Center.

During the lecture, Dr. Bao Ting shared a case of one of her breast cancer patients’ successful treatments through integrative medicine. Under Dr. Bao's guidance, the patient received acupuncture treatment twice a week, practiced yoga twice a week, and regularly took Omega-3 and Vitamin D. After a period, the patient's symptoms significantly improved, and her quality of life significantly improved.

Dr. Bao Ting is currently working at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a clinical affiliate and research institute of Harvard Medical School, serving as co-chair of the Leonard P. Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies and Healthy Living at Dana-Farber, and co-chair of the Society for Integrative Oncology (SIO) in the United States.

Dr. Bao Ting specializes in combining comprehensive breast cancer treatment (chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy) with complementary therapies such as acupuncture. Integrative therapy has been the core of her clinical practice for over 20 years, aiming to alleviate treatment side effects and significantly improve patients' quality of life.

In her lecture, Dr. Bao Ting provided a clear and concise introduction to the main types and core concepts of integrative medicine. She emphasized that integrative medicine is not simply superimposing multiple treatment methods, but rather a patient-centered, evidence-based comprehensive cancer treatment field that combines mind-body therapies, natural products, and lifestyle adjustments from different traditions with conventional cancer treatment. This model can not only effectively manage the side effects encountered by breast cancer patients during treatment but also serves as a valuable method for improving their quality of life.

Jiahui International Hospital (Shanghai) embodies "Care, Quality, Impact," prioritizing patient care. In this spirit, Dr. Bao Ting's lecture perfectly aligns with Jiahui's philosophy of integrating medicine with humanistic care and received an enthusiastic response.

The event was fully packed, with patients showing strong interest in cutting-edge international therapies.

This lecture was the first in the "Leading Experts at Jiahui Spotlight - International Oncology Expert Medical Forum" academic forum series. Jiahui International Hospital (Shanghai) will use this forum to gather top global oncology experts, aiming to share the latest global treatment concepts and clinical practice experiences with participants.

Jiahui International Hospital (Shanghai), as an international hospital, it fosters close exchanges and cooperation with the overseas medical community. 75% of Jiahui’s doctors have previously worked in top 3A public hospitals in China or leading foreign hospitals. Notably, many highly experienced experts—including those with years of overseas practice—have chosen to return to China and join full-time. Among them are Dr. Li Jun, a surgical oncologist and general surgeon who returned from the University of Hamburg in Germany, and Dr. Xuan Linli, a medical oncologist who recently came back to Shanghai to lead JICC. Jiahui International Hospital (Shanghai) also boasts a strong team of foreign experts from over 30 top medical institutions who can respond to clinical needs in a timely manner and hold remote consultations.

Coming up is our annual JICC Oncology Forum, expected to be held by the end of this year. The forum will bring together renowned oncology experts from home and abroad to jointly promote the application and implementation of precision medicine and personalized diagnosis and treatment at Jiahui.

From groundwork and construction to operation, internationalization is rooted in Jiahui's DNA.
Jiahui has leveraged the experience of top foreign hospitals during its initial strategic planning, architectural design, talent training, and organizational processes. In clinical practice, it also adopted advanced practices from the international medical community, such as the establishment of a tumor board, for tumor diagnosis and treatment, where the treatment plan for each cancer patient is discussed and reviewed by a collaborative committee of experts.

Jiahui International Cancer Center is committed to connecting patients with global diagnostic and treatment resources.

Jiahui International Hospital (Shanghai) has also obtained exclusive rights to operate the Chinese platform of the internationally renowned "The New England Journal of Medicine" (NEJM), connecting high-quality academic resources and laying a solid foundation for its internationalization, ultimately reflected in clinical services. Doctors from well-known overseas institutions in Europe, America, and Japan join our monthly exchanges at Jiahui International Hospital. These sessions feature academic discussions on cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment methods for doctors, as well as consultations and lectures for patients, bringing advanced diagnostic and treatment concepts and methods to patients and their families.

With several years of development of Jiahui International Hospital (Shanghai), its overseas medical department has also continuously expanded and improved, currently providing diverse international remote consultations and overseas patient services. This includes remote written consultations or video consultations, including remote imaging and pathology options. Overseas medical services include localized treatment of overseas treatment plans, and follow-up medical services.

With the establishment of Shanghai as a visa-free entry port this year, Jiahui International Hospital (Shanghai) is part of the city’s first batch of pilot tourism hospitals and received an increasing number of inquiries from overseas patients who wish to come for diagnosis and treatment, including oncology patients, orthopedic patients, obstetrics and gynecology patients, and plastic surgery. Jiahui Health will continue to serve as a bridge, bringing cutting-edge international diagnosis, treatment, and technology to domestic patients while also attracting more overseas doctors and patients to China.
