On August 24, Professor Souya Nunobe, Director of Gastric Surgery at Department of Gastric Surgery, Cancer Institute Hospital of Japanese Foundation for Cancer Research (JFCR), along with his delegation, visited Jiahui International Hospital for a professional exchange visit. The Cancer Institute Hospital of JFCR is a renowned cancer specialty hospital in Japan, with its gastric surgery department ranked first in Japan for many years in the field of gastric cancer surgery. The delegation was received by Dr. John HSIANG, Chairman of the Jiahui Health Executive Committee; Dr. LI Jun, Chief of Surgery; Dr. Andy SUI, Section Head of General Surgery; and Dr. XUAN Linli, Chief of Medical Oncology at Jiahui International Cancer Center, among others.
During the meeting, Dr. LI Jun, on behalf of Jiahui’s Surgery and Surgical Services, introduced the clinical team and surgical practices at Jiahui, sharing exemplary and complex surgical oncology cases across various subspecialties. Dr. XUAN Linli, Chief of Medical Oncology at Jiahui International Cancer Center, outlined the center’s patient care philosophy. This philosophy encompasses cancer prevention and early screening, advanced diagnostics, and multidisciplinary treatment planning. It also includes postoperative rehabilitation and end-of-life care for cancer patients. Dr. Xuan further highlighted the center’s specialized treatments, including targeted therapy, immunotherapy, CAR-T therapy, hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), and precision radiotherapy.
Finally, Ms. Zhang Wei from the International Department of the Cancer Institute Hospital of JFCR shared that the hospital receives the highest number of cancer patients in Japan and consistently ranks first in Japan for the volume of cancer surgeries in gastric surgery, colorectal surgery, hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgery, breast surgery, and gynecological oncology. The hospital’s five-year survival rates for patients with these cancers surpass the national average in Japan.
Following the meeting, Professor Souya Nunobe spoke in the “Leading Experts at Jiahui Spotlight- International Oncology Expert Medical Forum”, where he shared his expertise in minimally invasive gastric cancer surgery — characterized by precision resection and function preservation—with Jiahui Health’s clients and patients. The gastric surgery department at his hospital has been ranked first in Japan for many years, achieving a five-year survival rate of 78% (significantly higher than China’s average of 35%). The proportion of total gastrectomies, which are total surgical removals of the stomach, performed at the hospital accounts for only 15% of all gastric cancer surgeries, far below the Japanese average of 25%. The hospital attracts nearly 700 international patients annually for surgical treatment, making it the leading cancer specialty hospital in Japan for international patient care.
