Dr. Yoshihiro Takai, one of the pioneers of Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) in Japan, visited Jiahui International Hospital with the latest clinical advancements, opening a new chapter in precision medicine. Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT), an innovative binary targeted form of radiotherapy that merges biological and radioactive targeting, has garnered growing attention among cancer patients for its precision and therapeutic effectiveness.
On January 24, 2026, Dr. Yoshihiro Takai, Director of the Southern Tohoku BNCT Research Center and a radiation oncology expert, and his team visited Jiahui International Hospital for academic exchanges and observational purposes. Southern Tohoku General Hospital is Japan’s first hospital to offer boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) and now boasts the country’s highest volume of completed BNCT clinical cases.
Dr. XUAN Linli, Chief of Medical Oncology, and Dr. ZHANG Lihua, Section Head of Radiation Oncology, at Jiahui International Cancer Center hosted Dr. Takai during his visit, and accompanied him on a tour while introducing the center’s comprehensive diagnosis and treatment capabilities. During the tour, Dr. Takai offered praise for Jiahui's internationally standardized diagnostic and treatment capabilities, advanced facilities, and attentive, patient-centered service details.
Later that afternoon, as the first event of the year for the "Jiahui International Oncology Expert Medical Forum", Dr. Takai presented Japan’s BNCT (boron neutron capture therapy) technology, including its development, key indications, and clinical treatment data, to numerous patients and their families with an interest in the therapy.
As an emerging cutting-edge cancer treatment technology, BNCT has received widespread attention globally due to its high safety, precise targeting, and short treatment course. Since 2016, the Southern Tohoku BNCT Research Center has continuously promoted BNCT-related clinical research and received formal approval in 2020, achieving standardized application of the in-hospital accelerator BNCT system in clinical treatment, placing it at the forefront internationally in the treatment of various refractory tumors such as head and neck cancer and brain tumors.
At present, Japan has included BNCT in routine clinical treatment and incorporated it into its national health insurance system.
As Shanghai’s first large-scale international hospital, Jiahui Health adheres to global standards for diagnosis, treatment, medical quality and service, and is dedicated to linking patients with leading international medical resources. By deepening academic and clinical exchanges with renowned institutions across Europe, the US, Japan, Singapore and other overseas regions, it accelerates the clinical application of cutting-edge global diagnostic and treatment technologies, and the advancement of precision and personalized care. To better serve patients in need, the Department of Radiation Oncology at Jiahui International Hospital has officially launched a Boron Neutron Therapy Consultation Clinic. Radiation oncologists will conduct a comprehensive assessment of each patient's condition. For patients meeting the criteria for BNCT treatment, the hospital will assist in connecting them with relevant medical institutions in Japan, building a bridge to advanced BNCT care in Japan.
With increasingly close international exchanges and cooperation on cutting-edge treatment technologies such as BNCT, cancer treatment is welcoming in a new era of greater precision and personalization.Through this exchange with leading international experts, Jiahui International Hospital has not only brought the latest treatment options to patients but also injected new vitality into the advancement of cancer care in China.
