Jiahui International Cancer Center welcomes the approval of Satri-cel (CT041, Kaileimei®), the world's first CAR-T cell therapy approved for the treatment of a solid tumor.
Approved by China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), Satri-cel is indicated for Claudin18.2-positive, HER2-negative advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma in patients who have failed at least two prior lines of therapy. The approval represents a landmark achievement not only for patients with advanced gastric cancer, but also for the global field of cancer treatment.
A New Chapter for Solid Tumor Treatment
CAR-T cell therapy has transformed outcomes for many patients with blood cancers over the past decade. However, successfully applying CAR-T technology to solid tumors has long been considered one of oncology's greatest challenges.
The approval of Satri-cel marks the first time a CAR-T therapy for a solid tumor has successfully reached the market, opening a new chapter in cellular immunotherapy and offering new hope to patients with advanced gastric cancer.
In the pivotal clinical trial supporting approval, Satri-cel demonstrated meaningful improvements in response rates, disease control and survival outcomes in heavily pre-treated patients: 41% of treated patients saw measurable tumor shrinkage, compared to only 4% on standard therapy, and the therapy extended median overall survival by nearly six months for this hard-to-treat group. The therapy also showed a manageable safety profile, further supporting its clinical value.
China's Growing Role in Global Oncology Innovation
This milestone also reflects the rapid rise of China's biomedical innovation ecosystem.
In recent years, China has become an increasingly important source of novel oncology therapies, clinical research and treatment innovation. The approval of the world's first solid tumor CAR-T therapy further reinforces China's position at the forefront of next-generation cancer treatment development.
As international awareness of Chinese medical innovation continues to grow, more physicians, researchers and patients around the world are looking to China for access to novel therapies and treatment options.
