    • Palliative care is to provide comprehensive physical, psychological, social and spiritual care to improve the quality of life of patients, so that patients can finish the last stage of their life with quality, dignity, peace and harmony, so that patients and their families can get comfort in this process. Palliative care does not mean an end, nor does it mean giving up; its goal is not to hasten or delay death, but to provide medical support to ease the pain and discomfort of the end of life, to respect the laws of nature, and to make life more dignified


      Palliative care includes the four main aspects:


      1.With care as the center, one of the goals is to keep patients physically comfortable, control pain, and provide life care and psychological support.

      2.Safeguard human dignity. Patients' personal dignity should not reduce because of weakening life vitality, and individual rights should not be deprived because of physical weakness.

      3.Improve the quality of life for patients, remind people with humanized service to respect and affirm patients' life.

      4.The palliative care team should create a warm and harmonious environment for patients to leave to leave the world cushily and peacefully.

      Dr. Wang Jian, director of Jiahui Palliative Care Program, is a general practitioner, geriatrician, palliative caregiver and palliative care physician certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, who has extensive clinical experience in health care, anti-aging, chronic disease management, geriatric disease, comfort care and treatment. Our team consists of palliative care directors, attending doctors, senior nurses, pain management specialists, clinical psychologists, pharmacists, nutritionists, physical therapist, occupational therapist, trained nurses and volunteers. The clinical multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment team provides professional care for patients and their families, including pain management, rehabilitation activities, nutrition counseling, and psychological counseling.

    • It is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness, along with the symptoms of pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, constipation, nausea, loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping, anxiety and depression.

    • Patients can expect relief from symptoms such as pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, constipation, nausea, loss of appetite and difficulty sleeping. Palliative care helps patients carry on with his/her daily life and improves the ability to go through medical treatments. It helps patients better understand the medical condition and choices for medical care. They can expect the best possible quality of life.

      Palliative care is provided by a specially- trained team of doctors, nurses and other specialists who work together with a patient’s other doctors to provide an extra layer of support. The team provides expert symptom management, extra time for communication about patient’s goals and treatment options and help navigating the health system to carry out a holistic care. It is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness, and it can be provided along with curative treatment.

      Adequate control of pain and other symptoms.
      Establishing and implementing care plans in keeping with the patient’s values and preferences.
      Consistent and sustained communication between the patient and all those involved in his or her care.
      Psychosocial, spiritual, and practical support both to patients and their family caregivers.

      Dr. WANG Jian currently serves as a Physician in Family Medicine and Health Management Center as well as Palliative Care Program Director in Jiahui Health. Dr. Wang obtained her medical degree in 1985 from Shandong Medical College (now known as Shandong University, School of Medicine). In 1998, she went to the Prince of Wales Hospital affiliated to University of New South Wales, Australia and obtained her PhD in Cardiovascular Medicine in 1993. Then she worked at St. George Hospital, Westmead Hospital in Sydney, Australia, and Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, San Antonio, US as a scientist. She had more than 60 publications in SCI journals. 


      Dr. Wang completed the residency training in Family Medicine from 2003 to 2006 at the University of Texas, Houston. Then she completed geriatric fellowship training from 2006 to 2007 at the Baylor College of Medicine. She is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine in Family Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and Hospice/Palliative Care Medicine. 


      Dr. Wang established JMAX Clinic (Family Medicine) in 2007. Meanwhile she worked as a faculty physician in Geriatric Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine. From Oct 2008 to Sep 2019 she worked at the Extended Care Service, Veteran’s Affairs New Jersey Health Care System. Dr. Wang has rich experience in preventive medicine, anti-aging, chronic disease management, geriatric medicine and Palliative care/Hospice medicine. Dr. Wang emphasizes the importance of continuity of care and acts as an effective health care coordinator.

      Dr. QIU Ling currently serves as the Chief of Department of Family Medicine and Health Management Center at Shanghai Jiahui Health. Dr. Qiu obtained her medical degree at Tianjin Medical University, after a short period of clinical training, she went to the United States for doctoral level study and obtained Ph.D. degree in neuroscience at University of Louisville in 2000, followed by a 3-year clinical chemistry postdoctoral training. She completed her family medicine internship and family medicine residency program at Indiana University and University of Louisville School of Medicine. During her many years clinical practice in America, she successfully managed a private doctor clinic and gained ample of experiences. She was 500+ patent’s premium family doctor before joining Jiahui. She is board certified for Family Medicine and has been working as a family physician in Kentucky and Washington states for more than 15 years. 


      Dr. Qiu has extensive experience in close-loop continuity care for her patients. She has continued her clinical practice on ambulatory, hospital and emergency medicine. In addition, she is also well trained in preventive medicine and chronic disease management. Dr. Qiu is BLS, ACLS, PALS, and ATLS certified.

      Dr. Joan ZHONG is a Family Medicine Physician at Jiahui Health. Dr. Zhong was awarded a bachelor's degree in clinical medicine in 2010 and a master's degree in endocrinology and metabolic diseases from Nanjing Medical University in 2013. She completed the training of internal medicine including cardiovascular medicine, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology and endocrinology at Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital. Dr. Zhong has 8 years of medical work experience and participated in family medicine Fellowship Program of Jiahui Health from 2019 to 2021. She has studied at Renji Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University, 6th People’s hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University, Pediatric Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Fudan University and Jiahui International Hospital.


      Dr. Zhong specializes in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, coronary heart disease, thyroid disease and so on. She has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of common internal, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics disease and sexually transmitted diseases. Dr. Zhong understands that family medicine is about prevention, treatment, and health care, focusing on patient's whole picture rather than single disease itself, Dr. Zhong knows the importance of referring patients to specialists on time if necessary, while continuing to take care of the patient.
