NI Zhao Hui, MD, PhD, Chief Physician, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, and Postdoctoral Supervisor. Currently, she serves as the Director of the Department of General Internal Medicine, Director of Internal Medicine Residency Training, and Director of Internal Medicine Teaching and Research at Renji Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. She is also the Chief Expert and the Chief Professor of Integrated Medicine for the Urinary System at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Dr. NI has been engaged in clinical and experimental research in the Department of Nephrology at Renji Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine since 1983, accumulating rich clinical experience in nephrology and internal medicine. She served as the Director of the Department of Nephrology at Renji Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine from 2004 to 2020. In 2005 and 2006, she was a visiting scholar at the Yale University School of Medicine VA Medical Center and Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in the United States.
Dr. NI has been involved in clinical and basic research on the prevention and treatment of acute and chronic kidney diseases. She is skilled in diagnosing and treating various difficult and complicated kidney diseases, including IgA nephropathy, diabetic nephropathy, hypertensive nephrosclerosis, nephrotic syndrome, lupus nephritis, chronic renal insufficiency, hyperuricemia, gouty nephropathy, hematuria, and urinary tract infections. She is particularly adept at integrating traditional Chinese medicine with Western medicine in the treatment of these kidney diseases, including peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis.
In recent years, Dr. NI has been responsible for and has obtained numerous national and provincial-level scientific research projects. As one of the 41 experts in the field of nephrology nationwide, she was selected for the 2024 list of the top 2% scientists in the fields of urology and nephrology (released jointly by Stanford University and the international authoritative publisher Elsevier) and was also included in the 2024 annual pre-release list of the top 1% highly cited scholars by China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). She has published over 300 academic papers, including more than 100 SCI papers, and has edited or co-edited 14 monographs. She served as the first deputy editor for the Standard Operating Procedures for Peritoneal Dialysis and as a core member of the editorial committee for the Chinese Expert Consensus on the Integrated Treatment of IgA Nephropathy, the Guidelines for the Integrated Prevention and Treatment of Chronic Renal Failure, and the Guidelines for the Integrated Diagnosis and Treatment of Diabetic Nephropathy.
Dr. NI holds various social positions, including Honorary Chairman of the Shanghai Medical Association Nephrology Branch, Chairman of the Shanghai Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Association Metabolic and Immune Nephropathy Committee, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Association Expert Committee, Former Chairman of the Shanghai Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Nephrology Branch, Vice Chairman of the Second Shanghai Hospital Management Association Blood Purification Branch, Standing Committee Member of the Ninth, Tenth, and Eleventh Sessions of the Chinese Medical Association Nephrology Branch, Standing Committee Member of the Third and Fourth Sessions of the Chinese Physician Association Nephrology Branch, Secretary-General of the Chinese Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Association Nephrology Committee, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Hospital Management Association Blood Purification Branch, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Medical Promotion Association Blood Purification Branch, Vice President of the World Chinese Nephrologist Association, Member and East China Regional Leader of the Ministry of Health Nephrology Quality Control Center, and Vice President of the Chinese Female Physician Nephrology Association.
